Environmental Sustainability: Evidence That Matters for Our Planet

What we do to the Earth, we do to ourselves. This section brings together hard data on the systems that sustain life, from emissions and energy to biodiversity, oceans, air, soil, and water. Because climate action isn’t just about future risk, it’s about present-day reality, and the window for meaningful action is narrowing.

Here, you’ll find verified research, government reports, and global indices that show the state of our environment and the solutions already underway. Not alarmism. Not greenwash. Just the truth. Clear, credible, and essential for informed action.

Glimmer: Where climate facts meet collective resolve.

A $7.2 trillion green economy makes one thing clear: sustainability isn’t a side movement, it’s shaping the future of business and economies..

Glimmer is part of the infrastructure this moment demands. It’s built to be a space to connect the capital, companies, projects and communities turning bold commitments into lasting change.

The record surge in clean energy investment isn’t just a financial trend, t’s a signal. The world is rapidly moving toward decarbonisation. What’s needed now are the tools, platforms, know-how and communities that can match that momentum with action.

That’s where Glimmer comes in.

When 70% of global CEOs double down on sustainability, it’s more than a shift – it’s a signal. The centre of business is moving.

As leaders rewire their organisations for a low-carbon future, Glimmer exists to help them show up with transparency, connect with purpose (and joy!), and turn intention into impact.

This data point lays bare a hard truth. Too much of what’s called “sustainable” still isn’t. When billions in climate-linked finance go to high-impact polluters, it eats away at trust and stalls progress.

Glimmer exists to change that. By making credible information visible and accessible, we help people, companies, small business and investors separate signal from noise – and move resources toward what’s actually working.

The rise in green marketing tells a deeper story: brands aren’t just selling products. Brands are selling values. But in a landscape crowded with big claims and questionable or little proof, trust is the true currency. Glimmer offers a place where purpose-driven companies can show, not just say, what they stand for – backed by evidence, not spin.

This isn’t just market growth or an opportunity for those with foresight – it’s a mindset shift. Investors are reimagining value through the lens of impact, and the capital is following fast. A $167 trillion projection isn’t a trend…… it’s a call to build the platforms, networks, communities and systems that make sustainable investing real, impactful, verifiable, and scalable.

Glimmer exists to meet that moment…….with integrity, transparency, and action at its core.

This projection speaks to capital flows and investment. But it’s also about conviction. ESG is no longer a niche. It’s reshaping the core of global finance.

As institutional investors shift trillions toward sustainability, the need for platforms that offer real visibility, trust, and accountability has never been greater.

Glimmer meets this need – bridging intention with evidence, and capital with impact.

The signal is clear: people are paying closer attention. Nearly 7 out of 10 global consumers say sustainability has grown in importance in their daily choices. This shift reflects not just changing values – but rising expectations. For brands, it’s no longer about whether to act – but how visibly, credibly, and consistently they show up in service of people and planet.

Intentions matter – even when reality complicates them. Globally, consumers continue to express a willingness to pay more for sustainable choices, despite rising living costs. While this gap between values and behaviour varies by market, it reveals a deeper truth: people want to align their spending with what they care about. The opportunity lies in making that easier, more accessible, and undeniably credible.

Sustainable investing isn’t a niche anymore – it’s a mainstream movement.

As total AUM pushes past $3.5 trillion and continues climbing, investors are signalling a shift: they want their capital to reflect their values.

Platforms like Glimmer can tap into this wave – offering the transparency and verified impact investors now demand.

Sustainability awareness is building fast, so much so that it resembles a collective awakening. More than half of consumers are living their days with climate change front of mind, as intense weather and environmental stories dominate public consciousness. This shift isn’t passive – it reshapes expectations. Brands and platforms now must meet people where they are: climate-aware, conscious, and demanding accountability.

Insights hubs like Glimmer, powered by real data, are essential foundations for that trust.

This is not a story of failure – it’s one of momentum and ambition. The toughest industries are already cutting emissions, and yet they require massive capital to complete the job. That’s why sustainability platforms aren’t optional – they’re essential. We need infrastructure that matches ambition with accountability. We need transparency, collaboration, and relentless innovation. This is why the journey matters – and why platforms that support it must scale with the mission.

This isn’t small-scale tinkering. It’s systems-level shift. A half‑trillion‑dollar growth horizon signals more than green ambition. What it tells you circularity is becoming the DEFAULT model for production and consumption.

Platforms that connect insights, evidence, passion and action – in spaces like Glimmer’s – are essential infrastructure for scaling this movement with trust and transparency.

This explosive growth isn’t just about new tech – it’s about a global reimagining of how we live, build, move, and power the future. From clean energy to carbon tracking and circular design, green innovation is attracting capital, talent, and urgency.

For platforms like Glimmer, it signals massive potential to serve as connective tissue – bringing together environmental sustainability-led users, businesses, funders and solutions within a trusted, data-driven ecosystem.

Circular construction is one of the most powerful levers we have to cut emissions at scale, without waiting on future technology. By rethinking materials and building processes, we can reduce billions of tonnes of CO₂ and unlock hundreds of billions in economic value. Even trillions.

What’s been missing is the connective tissue. The infrastructure to bring the right people, insights, capital and momentum together. That’s the role Glimmer is ready to play.

Social Impact and Wellbeing: Insights that put people at the centre of sustainability.

Sustainability isn’t just about carbon and climate. It’s about how we live, how we treat each other, and how we shape the future together. Around the world, people are grappling with eco-anxiety, loneliness, and systems that feel too big to change. But when communities come together – when we share, restore, and reimagine – we create something more powerful than a policy, We create momentum.

This section brings together verified data and research and up-to-date data showing how social connection, mental health, and environmental action are deeply interwoven. Because when we care for people and planet at the same time, real change becomes not only possible, but inevitable.

Glimmer: Where community, climate and care intersect.

Community-based gardening initiatives significantly improve mental health and quality of life.

Life rooted in soil has ripple effects. Bringing people together to grow food, especially when it’s shared, can ease anxiety, build hope, and foster connection.

The data is clear that time in community gardens delivers measurable gains in wellbeing. This isn’t just a hobby, it’s healing in action.

As Glimmer scales, we’re looking to support and spotlight these grassroots solutions—real-world spaces where sustainability meets belonging, and where positive change is rooted in community.

According to the OECD’s Well-being Framework (2024), nations that embed well-being into policy, through social connection, mental health, equity, and environmental stewardship, tend to achieve better outcomes across sustainability targets.

Well-being isn’t just a nice-to-have, it’s a powerful lever for systems change.

A 2024 global study published in The Lancet Planetary Health found that 59% of young people feel “very” or “extremely” worried about climate change, with many reporting sleep issues, anger, and feelings of powerlessness.

When almost two in five young Australians are living with a mental health condition, we can’t talk about the future without talking about wellbeing. These aren’t just statistics. They reflect young people navigating a world that feels uncertain, disconnected, and overwhelming.

If we’re serious about sustainability, we need to ideate, design, and build environments, physical and digital, where people can feel safe, seen, and supported. Because thriving people build thriving communities.

When platforms retreat from content moderation, the consequences ripple far beyond the screen. Reduced oversight has opened the door to hate speech, disinformation, and harm, especially for marginalised communities. This isn’t simply a policy choice, it’s a values statement.

The erosion of trust in legacy platforms reveals a gap we must urgently fill: digital spaces built with integrity, transparency, and human wellbeing at their core.

Glimmer was created in response to this need, a place where truth matters, safety is protected, and impact is real.

Billions of people still lack access to basic essentials like safe drinking water and sanitation. These unmet needs directly impact health, education, and opportunity. This is not a future challenge, it’s a present reality.

Reliable, verified data like this helps focus attention on where support is needed most and why it matters.

Loneliness is a public health crisis. Evidence is clear that ccess to nature helps. The presence of trees, gardens, and parks isn’t just about aesthetics – it’s a lifeline. People who live near green space feel more connected, more at ease, and more likely to engage with their neighbours.

These are the same conditions we need in digital spaces too. Spaces where trust grows, people show up with care, and community feels real. That’s what Glimmer is here to build.

The scale of loneliness in Australia — particularly among young adults and older women — has become a priority for public health and social policy. Its impacts extend beyond individual wellbeing to productivity, healthcare costs, and community resilience. The growing demand for platforms that foster meaningful, real-world connection presents a clear opportunity for innovation in social infrastructure.

Glimmer is one such response, enabling engagement that supports both individual wellbeing and collective cohesion.

In 2023, the US Surgeon General declared loneliness a public health crisis, linking it to increased risk of heart disease, stroke, dementia, and premature death, comparable to smoking 15 cigarettes a day.

When platforms don’t feel secure, including how your data is used or how harmful content is managed, people step back. They want spaces where they can connect freely, but without worry.

That’s why Glimmer is designed to be open by default: clear policies, user control, and responsible moderation. Crikey! Sounds fabulous! So you feel confident engaging and contributing to positive change.

UNESCO’s latest report finds that disinformation around climate issues is fuelling a rise in eco-anxiety, especially among younger generations. The problem isn’t a lack of awareness. It’s the emotional toll of knowing the stakes without seeing clear pathways forward.

That’s where platforms like Glimmer can make a difference. By offering information, hope and ways to take action.. A platform that reminds people they’re not alone, and that change is still possible.

Mission Australia’s youth survey makes one thing clear.

Eco-anxiety is becoming a defining mental health issue for young Australians.

With two-thirds of 16–25 year-olds affected, this isn’t just about the climate, it’s about how we care for each other in the face of it. Communities are stepping up through local climate cafes and shared spaces for honest conversations.

Glimmer is designed to meet this moment, offering a warm digital home for hope, connection, and action.

According to Curtin University’s 2024 findings, over 80% of Gen Z Australians are seriously worried about climate change, with many experiencing anxiety that impacts their future decisions, from careers to whether they’ll have children. But concern also fuels action. This generation is actively seeking platforms that don’t just talk about change, that don’t just like and meme, they help build it.

That’s where Glimmer can lead. We’re exploring a dedicated space within the app that empowers users to share, repair, and upcycle – whether it’s clothes, tools, furniture, or tech. Think of it as a peer-powered marketplace meets community noticeboard: practical, collaborative, and grounded in sustainability. It’s not about buying more – it’s about doing more with what we have, together.

For Gen Z, that’s the future they want to co-create.

Introducing more nature into cities led to a nearly 30% decline in anxiety-related doctor visits and a 19% drop in antidepressant use.

When communities bring wild nature back into urban spaces, through native plants, mini wetlands, or natural corridors, the impact is measurable. People visit fewer clinics and rely less on medication. This isn’t about aesthetics; it’s about mindsets. Nature helps restore calm, resilience, and belonging in busy environments.

Glimmer can help amplify this momentum by sharing, supporting, and scaling place-based projects where digital meets natural community wellbeing.

A clear sense of purpose enhances mental and physical health, fostering resilience and motivating civic and environmental engagement.

Research from the Greater Good Science Center at UC Berkeley indicates that individuals with a strong sense of purpose experience lower levels of stress, depression, and chronic illness. This sense of purpose not only bolsters personal well-being but also inspires greater participation in community and environmental initiatives, highlighting the interconnectedness of individual fulfillment and societal progress.

Governance and Compliance: Why Governance Matters Now More Than Ever

Strong signals are coming from regulators, markets, and consumers alike: transparency is no longer optional.

From Australia’s incoming ESG reporting mandate to other region’s mandatory financial reporting , and global crackdowns on greenwashing, the regulatory landscape is shifting fast. Around the world, businesses are being required to align their operations with clear, auditable sustainability goals, and to prove it.

For forward-thinking investors, this isn’t noise. It’s signal. It’s validation that the market is ready, and overdue, for a platform like Glimmer: a digital infrastructure that puts compliance, credibility, and clarity at its core.

Glimmer’s opportunity is not speculative. It’s structural.

As businesses scramble to meet new disclosure standards and avoid reputational risk, Glimmer is building a trusted environment where transparency isn’t just encouraged, it’s enabled. With upcoming ESG tools, verified disclosures, and real-time reporting features, Glimmer will be the place organisations turn to when the stakes, and expectations, are highest.

This is not just about sustainability. It’s about accountability. And that’s the future being legislated into existence.

Glimmer: The rules are changing. We’re ready.

From January 2025, Australian businesses above a certain threshold must disclose their climate-related financial risks and opportunities. This isn’t just a reporting exercise, it’s a reset. Sustainability is no longer a side note; it’s baked into balance sheets.

For platforms like Glimmer, it’s a signal that the market is moving toward accountability, traceability, and verified impact. We’re not building in a vacuum. We’re building in lockstep with where the world is heading.

The European Union’s Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) now requires large and listed companies to disclose ESG risks and impacts using standardised frameworks.

With mandatory third-party assurance and digital tagging, this regulation marks a global shift toward verifiable, accountable sustainability reporting—raising the bar for transparency across markets.

In a landmark move, ASIC initiated legal proceedings against an Australian superannuation fund for misleading sustainability claims – its first enforcement under new greenwashing guidelines. This action sets a precedent, signalling increased scrutiny of ESG marketing and the importance of verifiable, transparent reporting.

In June 2025, the French Senate approved a bill imposing eco-taxes on ultra-fast fashion items, starting at €5 per item in 2025 and increasing to €10 by 2030. The legislation bans advertising for ultra-fast fashion brands and mandates transparency through an “eco-score” system, requiring retailers to disclose the environmental impact of their products.

This move aims to curb overconsumption and promote sustainable practices within the fashion industry.

An AP investigation exposed how global banks issued hundreds of billions in SLLs to companies in fossil fuels, mining, and deforestation – without requiring meaningful environmental reforms. Instead of reducing emissions, many used the loans to polish reputations. This data highlights a growing trust deficit in ESG finance – and a clear need for platforms like Glimmer that prioritise integrity, transparency, and independent verification in the sustainability space.

Bloomberg Intelligence forecasts a seismic shift in global finance, with ESG assets expected to exceed US$40 trillion by 2030, representing approximately 25% of total global AUM. Despite slower overall growth, this maturation signals deepening credibility and investor demand for sustainability-aligned investments.

For Glimmer, this trend isn’t speculative – it’s structural. Our platform aligns squarely with where capital is moving: towards transparency, accountability, and impact-driven ecosystems.

In 2023, the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB) released IFRS S1 and S2 – setting landmark global standards now being adopted in over 20 jurisdictions. For the first time, businesses from Singapore to the UK are being called to speak the same language when it comes to climate and sustainability risks.

For investors, this means clarity. For companies, it means transparency is no longer optional.

And for platforms like Glimmer, it affirms the need for trusted, verified, and universally understood ESG data – right where people are already connecting and collaborating.

A recent report shows that nearly 8 in 10 top UK companies now have their ESG data independently reviewed – driven largely by third-party auditors, primarily the Big 4. This shift reflects more than compliance, it reflects a maturation in how companies understand and communicate sustainability.

As global standards like the CSRD and ISSB require audit-level oversight, platforms like Glimmer are essential: offering a transparent channel for verified corporate impact, trusted by auditors, regulators, and stakeholders alike.

More than 500 global organisations – including major banks, asset managers, and corporates – are now committing to use the TNFD framework to disclose nature-related risks and dependencies. This surge reflects a growing understanding that biodiversity loss poses systemic financial risks.

As stakeholders demand more than climate reporting, verified nature disclosures are becoming essential, creating an opportunity for Glimmer to support transparency in a broader sustainability ecosystem.

Recent studies indicate a substantial uptick in ESG integration among Asia-Pacific firms.

KPMG’s “Evolution of Sustainability Reporting in Asia Pacific” report notes that many countries in the region are introducing ISSB standards, reflecting a commitment to standardised sustainability reporting.  Similarly, PwC’s “Sustainability Counts III” report highlights that several jurisdictions, including Australia, Hong Kong SAR, Malaysia, Singapore, and Taiwan, have mandated climate-related disclosures, with others considering the adoption of ISSB standards.

These developments signify a regional shift towards more consistent and transparent ESG practices, aligning with global expectations and investor demands.

Glimmer can help amplify this momentum by sharing, supporting, and scaling place-based projects where digital meets natural community wellbeing.

India’s Securities and Exchange Board (SEBI) is re-evaluating ESG disclosure mandates for listed companies, particularly concerning supply chain reporting.

This review aims to balance the need for transparency with the reporting capacities of smaller firms, reflecting a nuanced approach to ESG regulation.

As of April 2025, the UK’s Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) can directly fine companies (without going to court) for misleading environmental claims. Under new consumer protection laws, penalties can reach 10% of a company’s global turnover, signalling one of the world’s toughest stances on greenwashing.

It’s a wake-up call for brands to back up sustainability claims with real substance.

In March 2024, ASOS, Boohoo, and Asda were forced to rethink their sustainability marketing after a CMA probe found their “eco” collections relied on vague, feel-good language without proper evidence. The investigation set a new precedent: if you claim green, you need to prove it.

In 2025, landmark initiatives like the EU Artificial Intelligence Act and the G7 Hiroshima AI Process set a new global precedent: AI systems must be transparent, traceable, and accountable. These frameworks require organisations to disclose how algorithms influence decision-making and to manage risks proactively.

Glimmer aligns with this global shift – committing to platform transparency, ethical tech design, and responsible data use from day one.
