Hi Nancy, we’d love to hear about your journey in becoming a female CEO and running your own business.
As the CEO and Founder of a social media network dedicated to social and environmental sustainability, my journey embodies the essence of resilience, determination, and passion. In celebration of International Women’s Day, I am honoured to share my story of breaking barriers and carving a path as a female CEO in the tech industry.
From the outset, my entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to making a positive impact on the world have been the driving forces behind my endeavours. Yet, navigating the corporate landscape as a woman presented its own set of challenges. However, with every obstacle encountered, I found an opportunity for growth and empowerment.
My journey to leadership wasn’t without its hurdles. In a traditionally male-dominated industry, I faced scepticism and doubt. But I chose to let my vision speak louder than the naysayers. I embraced every setback as a chance to learn and evolve, refusing to let gender stereotypes define my capabilities.
As I forged ahead, I realised the importance of fostering a supportive community of like-minded individuals. Surrounding myself with mentors and allies who championed diversity and inclusion, and empowered me to embrace my authentic leadership style fully.
Through perseverance and unwavering dedication, I transformed my vision into reality. Today, our social media network stands as a testament to the power of innovation and sustainability. It serves as a platform for individuals worldwide to connect, collaborate, and effect meaningful change.
My journey as a female CEO is a testament to the boundless potential of women in leadership. It is a reminder that with determination, resilience, and unwavering passion, we can shatter glass ceilings and redefine what it means to lead.

What advice would you give to someone starting their own business?
For someone starting their own business, my advice would be to embrace this experience wholeheartedly, knowing that it will be filled with challenges and triumphs alike.
Starting your own business is a thrilling and rewarding endeavour and, while the road may be challenging at times, the journey is ultimately what shapes you as an entrepreneur. Appreciate this journey, stay true to your vision, and believe in yourself and your ability to succeed.
I consider these the most important pieces of advice:
- Firstly, do meticulously research and understand the market, identify gaps, opportunities, and potential challenges to inform a solid business strategy.
- Secondly, building a robust network of mentors, advisors, and fellow entrepreneurs can provide invaluable guidance, support, and connections throughout the start-up process.
- Also, maintaining a relentless focus on delivering value to customers is paramount; prioritising customer needs and feedback ensures the business remains relevant, competitive, and sustainable in the long run.
- Alongside this entrepreneurial journey, prioritise self-care and maintain a healthy work-life balance to sustain your physical, mental, and emotional well-being. Taking time for self-care ensures you have the energy, resilience, and clarity of mind needed to navigate the ups and downs of entrepreneurship effectively.
